Paintsprayers working in bodyshops as well as estimators etc. need regular medicals because of the possibilty of  isocyanate exposure when working in motor vehicle repair premises.Serial spirometry done annually watches for subtle changes in lung function that might indicate lung damage in association with occupational exposure.

The medical includes:

  • spirometry (lung function testing)
  • blood pressure  weight  height
  • auscultation of the chest
  • peak expiratory flow rates
  • capilliary oxygen measurement
  • smoking status/advice
  • assessment of co-existing lung disease e.g.asthma
  • advice re use of mask,gloves and ear protection
  • an optional audiogram (hearing test)
