·         pre-employment
·         every 3 years after (if <55), unless 55-65 (2 years), 65 or above (annual)
·         after any long term absence or a new medical condition occurs

CBH defines what constitutes SCW as “Where the ill health of an individual may compromise their ability to undertake a task defined as safety critical, thereby posing a significant risk to the health and safety of others.”   CBH Standards 2008 V2. 23.01.08

The Constructing Better Health level assessment includes
·         full medical history including photo ID check
·         history of current / expected duties
·         BMI and grip test
·         blood pressure check
·         spirometry (lung function testing)
·         visual acuity
·         colour vision check
·         audiometry
·         examination cardiovascular, respiratory, nervous and musculo-skeletal
·         urine testing for blood protein glucose infection

Subject to satisfactory completion, a certificate of fitness is issued to the employee on the day of examination for a specified length of time.

Fit for task medicals -possible outcomes:
• fit to work
• fit to work but with certain restrictions in place
• not fit to work for the moment   can have a retest if risk factor(s) corrected
